TWA 17

Cryogenic Structural Materials

This TWA comprised the remaining half of TWA 6 and was concerned with structural materials for cryogenic applications. The two major objectives were:

  • to develop an understanding of measurement of mechanical properties at 4K
  • to establish a unified, generic testing protocol.

The approach followed was to use a series of round robin intercomparisons, first, to identify problems and errors associated with existing room temperature standards or proposed procedures, and second, to refine test procedures for use at cryogenic temperatures.
