TWA 4

Multiphase Polymers

This TWA was developed in recognition of the existence of wide generic problems relevant to the class of materials known as Multiphase Polymers, encompassing within its scope short fibre reinforced polymers as well as immiscible polymer blends. The programme relied on enhancing synergy between major programmes of work already in existence or planned within the VAMAS countries. The three main supporting programmes consisted of:

  • Development of an international standard for moulding a test specimen in plate form
  • Quantification of morphology
  • Development of standards for fracture toughness tests for polymers by collaboration between VAMAS and the European Structural Integrity Society (ESIS) Task Group 4.

In early 1996 it was agreed to terminate the work of TWA 4 because of the change of industrial emphasis on this class of materials.
