TWA 33

Polymer Nanocomposites

The TWA focuses on the technical problems in standardization of these polymeric materials, containing nano-particles, lamellar or fibrillar, natural or synthetic. Since some test methods developed for polymeric materials can be used for polymer nanocomposites (PNC), the TWA activities may be divided into two categories:

    (1) development of specific test methods for the characterization of nanoparticles
    (2) development of new methods, or modification of existing ones, for characterization of PNC showing different behavior than that of neat resin.

Active Projects

  • Determination of the shape, size and size distribution of nano-filler particles
  • Electrical characterization of polymer nanocomposites
  • To achieve the objectives an international collaboration has been initiated with industrial partners from three continents

    Additional Proposed Projects

  • Use of Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA) for the determination of mechanical properties of PNC
  • Fracture mechanics of PNC
