TWA 3

Ceramics for Structural Applications

This TWA was launched with the objective of investigating the reliability and reproducibility of test procedures for advanced ceramics prior to formal standardisation. Engineering ceramics are exploited for properties such as high hardness and wear resistance and good dimensional stability, and offer the promise of outstanding high-temperature performance. Their application in some areas, such as engines, has been disappointingly slow, in part because of the lack of assurance in their long-term reliability in structural applications. Standards were needed to enhance supplier and user confidence in property levels and test procedures.

In March 2010, it was agreed to terminate the work of TWA 3.
