TWA 1

Wear Test Methods

This TWA was established with the objective of improving the reproducibility and comparability of wear tests by developing internationally agreed test methodologies for characterisation of wear behaviour of advanced materials. Wear and corrosion are economically the most important processes of materials deterioration. Wear has been defined by the OECD as the progressive loss of substance of a body, occurring as result of relative motion at the surface. The introduction of new and improved materials had been hindered by lack of reliable data and codes of practice because of the complexity of friction and wear processes and the lack of standardised wear test methods.
