TWA 43

Thermal Properties

Thermal properties are an important parameter and covers wide industry sectors including advanced manufacturing, life sciences, energy and environment.

The activities in the proposed TWA will aim to improve data generation, calibration and measurement traceability to enable a better understanding of material behaviour. A wide range of techniques will be considered to develop best practice, reference materials and improved test methods to cover the complete material cycle from selection and qualification, processing and characterisation to long term performance and recycling.

Any validated data generated from the international intercomparison exercises will support future standardisatin needs.

Projects

  1. Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) - Determination of the curie point
  2. Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) - Measurement of the specific heat capavity
  3. Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA) - Temparature calibration and measurement traceability
  4.  Reliable material characterisation methods for Thermal Protection System (TPS) critical ablative materials
  5.  Cryogenic thermal analysis
  6.  In-plane thermal diffusivity measurements of graphene and related 2D material films
